When the unit is new, 85% of the heat generated is passed into the pool. This percentage drops as the unit ages, due to the formation of scale inside the coils (a natural event which is kept to a minimum by maintaining proper water chemistry). If the unit were to operate at any higher of a percentage, it would require a separate drain line to dispose of the water generated from condensation.
